It’s an uphill battle, but I’m trying to arrange five more Bach Chorales and get through #30 of Alwin Schroeder’s Volume 1 This week.
For some reason, my old version of Sibelius isn’t saving some Scorch files properly. Hopefully there is an easy solution, because I really don’t want to do a bunch of them over again.
And as usual, the computer work always takes so much longer than the recording work. However, since I’m getting in the swing of things, many of the processes involved are becoming much more efficient.
My suggestion to budding musicians is to get your hands on technology early. There is so much you can do to unleash the potential of your ideas beyond just practicing and performing, though both those things are quite a challenge themselves.
Thank goodness for a simple player for my mp3s.
The Windows Media Player no longer works on my website, so I spent a long time looking for another solution.
Trying to tidy up things before I add new items. At least I’m putting forth the effort this time rather than just thinking about it…
Although I have the first 39 of Alwin Schroeder’s Volume I up on Youtube, it’s been awhile since I’ve decided to take action to re-record them and have them available as mp3s.
I was able to complete up to #16 this evening, as I have been editing some others. It’s my hope to have quite a comprehensive list of etudes recorded over the next few years.
Additionally, I will try to post the first of my arrangements of Bach Chorales. Let’s hope there aren’t too many technical (in working with Dreamweaver) snafus..
So I’ve come to a decision on how to best use my resources.
First of all, I’m planning on getting through as much classical music as I can and put free recordings on the site. How much $$ did I think I was going to get by just doing whatever every other good cellist is doing?
As Gerd Leonhard puts it.. if you’re trying to sell something, people are going to want some other things for free.
So yeah, I’m starting up with recording some cello etudes and with Sibelius making arrangements of Bach Chorales for cellos.
So each week, there will be something new to download, print out or listen to. for free.
I’m also trying to work on the projects that people like you will find interesting enough to part with a few clams.
We shall see.
This week–
New to my Recordings page is Home in March.
Tuesday is Noontime Concerts time It’s early Sunday morning and I best be off to sleep..
So now you can listen to our mp3s instead of just having to download them.. much, much easier.
I would like to thank David Battino for giving the shout out on this free little application called Playlister.
Delicious.com — thanks for creating this in the first place.
Hello,
just letting you know that I’ve just posted the first movement of us playing Beethoven’s Op.5, No. 1 for cello and piano.
For those of you who are students of UC – Santa Cruz: If you play the cello or have wanted to, I’m looking to add students to build my studio there, so just email me!
Randy
Well everyone,
I don’t know why I didn’t consider this before.
From now on, everything I produce will be free online.
Something new every week.. Either in audio or video form.. or both.
Hope you enjoy!!
Randy
8th Anniversary of that most grievous of days. Let’s not forget.
Well, I’m thankful to be starting to work at UC – Santa Cruz later this month. I’ll be playing three works of the composition faculty and a couple of other works with Shu. After a month in China and getting back to reality, time to dig in and practice. Also getting back to Robert Mann’s Etude for Solo Cello so that I can record it for my 2nd album.
Time to thicken the calluses.
Sent in the CV and CD for this recent job posting. I’m really hoping that this comes through.
I would enjoy the task and struggle of building up a cello studio worthy of recognition; teaching is a passion of mine. A job is what you make it, after all.
UC – Santa Cruz is a beautiful campus, and the faculty with whom I’ve worked – Nicole Paiement and Roy Malan, are quite fine musicians. It would seem a great place to settle into. Now, I’m just waiting every day for that letter!
Everyone send a good vibe and let’s hope the best candidate gets the position!!
